Steve Lacy Merch

He might be best known for his role as guitarist in throwback cloud-funk outfit the Internet, but Steve Lacy has plenty of other interests, too. He's a bona fide fashion darling, having recently walked in Virgil Abloh's Louis Vuitton show at Paris Fashion Week and fronted the campaign for liberal-arts-college-boy favorite Carhartt. He also recently posed dramatically in his hotel shower wearing head-to-toe Balenciaga, kicking off a new trend we're calling "shower selfies."

In his debut solo album Apollo XXI, Lacy wrestles with questions of sexuality and selfhood in thoroughly modern Tumblr-candid fashion over thumping, mutable space-soul jams that sound like 2075’s idea of deep-shag '74. On “Looks,” a slinking guitar riff channels Funkadelic, while “Heartlovin’” is an accelerated Motown ballad with melodic layering that sounds influenced by the Dirty Projectors’ David Longstreth. It all adds up to an album that feels like a moment, even at its 13-minute length. The LP’s opening track, “Atomic Vomit,” rides on a funky bass riff that’s equal parts hip-hop and psychedelic soul.

The merch collection from Steve Lacy’s collaboration with Mercge4 is designed to bring a sense of nostalgia and streetwear to your skateboarding outfit. From green blazers and tube socks to a hat and sneakers, the pieces are sure to add some edge to any look.

On stage, Lacy’s music talks openly about change, queerness, love and otherworldly joy that gives space for self-acceptance. At a sold-out Fillmore performance, his music moved listeners to tears.

The 20-year-old LA-based guitarist, producer and singer of alternative R&B/Neo-soul/psychedelic band The Internet has a plethora of achievements under his belt. He’s a Grammy nominee, produces songs for Kendrick Lamar, Big Sean and Jhene Aiko and was nominated in the category of Best New Artist at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards.

With the release of his sophomore album Gemini Rights, Lacy’s warm, psychedelic take on bedroom pop and neo-soul continues to go bolder and more confident. Whether on the spitefully jokey meta-love song Static or the lazy more Stevie Wonder funk delivery on Mercury, his falsetto is enchanting and hypnotizing.
